In a few
days I’ll be traveling East, to a place that is completely culturally different
than that of which I have ever experienced—needless to say I am both excited
and nervous. I am journeying with a
group of other young people to take a ten-day tour of Israel. For this trip I had to buy a variety of items
that my group leaders deemed necessary, one of these items was a
wristwatch.
Wristwatches
are something that within the past year I have fallen in love with. I have a Seiko dress watch, and a vintage
Hamilton dress watch (which until yesterday I wore daily), however, no
practical, every day watch. This
presented me with an excuse for me to spend some money and purchase a new one. I have had my eye on a range of watches,
however, the recent collaboration between J. Crew and Timex really caught my
eye. J. Crew approached Timex to reissue
some of their vintage, classic designs, for which Timex is known. What they
came up with is perfectly Americana in the most beautiful sense of the
word. The watches are both modern, and
classic. Simple and understated, yet
really compliment any outfit—whether it be dress or casual.
The
collaboration between the two companies produced three watches, the Timex
Military Watch, the Timex Field Army Watch, and the Timex Andros Watch. I chose
the Andros, J. Crew issued this statement, “we've
created a dive-style watch that's timeless and genuinely true to its roots (it
was inspired by one of the most breathtaking and extraordinary barrier reefs in
the world, Andros). Featuring a quartz analog movement with a functioning
bezel, it's the perfect no-fuss nautical companion that's just as dependable on
land as it is exploring the seas (it's water-resistant up to 100 meters). A
lasting blend of functional design and modern crafting, it's the kind of watch
that will last a lifetime—and you won't find it anywhere else.”
The
watch comes with a navy blue nylon strap; however, J. Crew has created a
variety of interesting bands that I highly suggest you purchase with your watch
to give it a more personal feel. I chose
a navy blue and white band, to give the watch a more summer, nautical look.
